Work Contents and Details

Community level Youth Hubs

Encourage community organizations to establish Youth Hubs to offer young people more diverse services in one center.

Women's Career Development Workshop

Promote the women's career advancement program, hold a ‘Women's Career Development Workshop' to develop women's career choices and a more equitable working environment.

Overseas internship and employment system

In cooperation with the MOE, collect information on short-term employment or internship opportunities overseas, and encourage INGOs to submit news on internship plans to the Youth Hub information station.

Youth Hub management

Equip the Youth Hub with its three functions of information, service, and exchange. Information includes practical data, a career library and the Youth Hub youth information station. Services include both career and entrepreneurship guidance. The exchange function is to offer a space for a dialogue platform.

Employment services for army personnel completing military service

The NYC, CLA, MND, and VAC jointly organize ‘Employment Service Activities for Army Personnel Completing Military Service'. Events include recruitment activities at major military bases and discussion meetings at smaller bases. In addition, a handbook on ‘Employment After the Army' is printed and distributed to army personnel completing military service.

Youth workplace experience project

Focusing on the employment problem caused by young people who lack work experience, in 2004 the NYC, with CLA and CEPD, jointly planned promotion of the ‘Youth Workplace Experience Project', which offered 5,800 18-29 year old high school or above graduates, in specialized fields, internship training in businesses, to improve their working capacity and experience.

Funding for organization of career guidance events

Private organizations may apply for funding to hold youth career development activities, according to funding operational rules.

Production of career publications

Information on the NYC's work, events and other news is published in the Youth Hub periodical magazine.

Participation in youth career related conferences

The NYC plans to participate in the YES (Youth Employment Summit) Kenya from September 13-16, 2006.

4. Conclusion
Facing the era of globalized competition of human resources, the NYC and other related ministries share responsibilities and cooperate with each other – through career navigation, professional development, employment advancement, youth and juvenile guidance services and other strategies – to jointly create a conducive environment for young people, and smooth the transition between the education system and the employment market.
