in his 2OOO inauguration address, President Chen Shui-bian introduced the policy of‘Volunteer Taiwan, and is his 2004 inauguration address on May 20,he pointed out how Taiwan was entering the second phase of democratic construction, which would concentrate on civil society building and recreat-ing a common national identity.
As part of these policy directions, the National Youth Commis-sion (NYC)woks to promote reformation and deepening of democracy through broadening civic engagement of young people, increasing opportunities for youth participation, and raising the capacity of young people to participate.
We believe that through young people's concern for community issues, involvement in successful community actions, and engagement in grassroots community building, together we can build a society that is more caring, multicultural and mutu-ally accepting in Taiwan.NYC works in partnership with local governments, high schools and colleges,NPOs and commu-nity groups to create more opportunities for young people to participate, and construct a new youth culture in Taiwan.
As a promoter member for GYSD 2005 the NYC invited those aged between 12 and 30 to join us in making a positive impact on the world. Some 25,000 people participated in over 1,362 action plans across Taiwan . Updated Date 12-03-01 |
